I got this for my son on a whim at a grocery store, of all places. My son really didn't like to color but he loved to write. I figured this would be worth a try and if he liked it, would save a lot of paper. He wanted this opened right away and it took me hours to tear him away from it.
Markers are easy to use for young kids, more so than a pencil. They make nice, bold lines in fun colors, and they erase easily. Boy, what could be better? He made me change the background numerous times and eventually developed some nice penmanship. This really showed when he started kindergarten this year and his teacher commented on how nice his handwriting was. All that practice paid off, and he enjoyed it! (He just turned five this week and he writes neater than his 11 year old brother does!)
This activity center is compact, fun and easy to use, educational and portable. You don't need anything to go with this so it is great for travel. If writing is not your child's idea of fun (my other two would never sit to write letters for fun), there are other activities, or use the blank background for tic-tac-toe, hangman, dots, or just drawing. Easy to write, easy to erase, so many things you can do.
We have had this item for about two years. The markers have started to wear out and it doesn't erase as well as it once did. I will be pulling out the extra I bought when it was on sale. However, this toy was well used and not treated with kid gloves. No, it was not abused, but it was certainly used a lot. I feel that it has held up quite well and was well worth the money. This provides many hours of fun, learning, and imagination in an easy to take along format that travels well. Even the older kids don't mind doing the activities with their brother.
