Customer Review: Very Fun but buy a BULB !

Got this as a gift, and seeing the [...] dollar price tag it is something I would have passed up. And if I had to buy it myself I would pass it up. I can see 40 bucks tops for this thing.
Getting the price out of the way it is very fun and you can learn what colors mix to make other colors. You can use all the flakes in the crayon sharpener to make new crayons and if the tips break off you are not to sad, actually you are kind of excited.
Bad design part is once the timer is set you can not lift the lid. This is for safety cause the parts inside are hot. If you are creative this is easily bypassed so you can open while heating to mix the colors with a little stick and add fine glitter to the mix to make your own sparkle crayons.
For [...] bucks I would hope this thing would have made full sized crayons. It makes these smaller thicker half height crayons that you have to put end too end in a little holder. Still works well I would have preferred 2 full sized crayons instead of 4 half height ones.
But it is a lot of fun overall and lets you reuse all those little stubby crayons.

I bought the crayola crayon maker for my sister as a christmas present. This toy was in high demand and amazon.com was the only place I could find it. Before I purchased it I read all the reviews and decided to buy it. People said that it took a long time for the crayons to melt but this toy is for kids and is heated by a light bulb. I personally wouldn't want it to get too hot too fast so the kids won't get hurt. Another plus side to this toy is when it is in the process of melting the crayons the lid locks down and you can't open it until it is completely done. According to one of the reviews, I wouldn't recomend melting any crayons that aren't crayola brand. I haven't tried it but I was told that they wouldn't melt unless it was crayola brand. When you mix the colors the crayon is amazing and one of a kind. You can never make the same crayon twice! I would recomend this toy to any one including kids and adults. I have a tendency to break crayons as do all of the kids in my family. We got this as a way to reuse all those tiny little tips that end up at the bottom of the crayon box. This makes about half size crayons which tend to break less, that's probably at least half the reason they crayons you make are so small, it makes them more durable. I had remembered melting old crayons to make new ones when I was younger so I was excited about this. Much easier than trying to melt them on the stove where if you aren't careful you end up with just a horrible blob of indistinct color. This Crayon Maker doesn't come with a bulb so I recommend ordering one at the same time.
Great for kids who love to color! Neat way to encourage kids to reuse rather than just throw crayons out when they break.

I was a little hesitant about getting this product because of some negative reviews I had read. But I really wanted something to get rid of my bag-fulls of crayon pieces.
My kids and I love it. Granted the color swirls are not as sharp as the ones in the picture on the box. But it is fun, easy to use and it melt the crayons fast. It takes a little long to set, but it is wax cooling so it makes sense.
Also, you get nicer crayons if you only mix two colors at a time that are very different one from the other.
The clean-up is a little tedious, and of course it is left for me to do. But I don't mind because this way I make sure it lasts them a long time, and they make nicer crayons from the stubs they were not using otherwise!!

Wanted to see the reviews even though we just purchased this as a much wanted gift for our 8 yr old neice. What I can say is that I am SHOCKED at the Amazon price. Obviously from greedy toy sellers. I wanted to share that on Dec 2, 2010 it was $20 on Walmart Rollbacks. I think it said regular price was around $25. So based on the reviews it's certainly well worth the $20-$25 price range. Only complaint is that you have to purchase a specific light bulb that is not included. Wished I had read the box before checking out, so I could have grabbed one before I went to wrap it! Can't wait to see her delight when she gets it and to maybe even get to watch the process. Seems like creative and safe fun. =)
