Toys and Games Reviews of Crayola Color Explosion Glow BoardCustomer Review: FANTASTIC! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this item for each of my sons as they love to draw with markers. My older son is creating masterpieces at 4 while his younger brother, even at 19 months, is having a blast. I draw with him and it's a fun way for us to practice colors and shapes.
Yes, you must have darkness for the pictures to glow, but what do you expect? It has to be dark for the lights to illuminate. I have not had any problem with the glow intensity of the markers. With the lights out they're brilliant and my boys love them. We especially like the underlying board, which allows you to draw a picture underneath the top board for a cool two dimensioanl effect.
I have used a soft wet cloth to clean and used a dry cloth to dry. I haven't had any issues yet and no scratches.
I can proudly say that this item keeps my two very active boys busy for a nice chunk of time and since they each have their own, NO FIGHTING! My only concern at this point is that if they continue to use the boards at this rate, the markers will dry out.
I definitely recommend this prodcut!
Customer Review: Fun for a 5 Year Old Summary: 5 Stars
Crayola Color Explosion Glow Board
I got the Crayola Glow Board for my five year old son and he loved it! For him the fun came from the unique effects he could make on the two panel drawing surface and then turn of the lights to see how they glow.
At first he was just drawing lines and shapes just to see the glowing effect when he turned out the lights. Then we found on Crayola.com that there were a bunch of print outs he could use to trace. They even have a program that lets him make his own two frame drawing on Crayola.com then print them out to trace on the Glow Board.
The best part for us was how much it keep him entered on a long road trip we recently did. Once it started to get e bit dark outside he was able to draw in the dark. He even made a sign that read "Are we there yet"!
Customer Review: Great Crayola Product Summary: 4 Stars
"Santa" brought this toy for our 7 year old daughter. We are a huge fan of Crayola products. She is very creative and artistic so we thought this would be great for her. Especially on the long car rides out of state to visit relatives.
I have to agree with other viewers, that it is hard to clean. I wish Crayola would have been more specific on what type of cloths to use for cleaning. So far, we have used the cloth handy wipes that you can get at any store in the cleaning aisle. They don't leave the little fuzz's behind like the baby wipes. We use a slightly damp one first, then a dry one second. This is sort of a pain because I have to wash them right away so she has them for the next time. I am contemplating buying some of those computer wipes to clean the plastic screens, but I am afraid that will get costly.
Besides the cleaning aspect this toy is great and our daughter loves it.
Customer Review: It's a great idea, but..... Summary: 3 Stars
We purchased this for my 6 year old (very artistic) boy. He absolutely loves it. It's a great idea, but the markers are completely worthless. He played with the board for about 2 hours the first day and by the second day, the markers were dried up. We made sure when he put them away that the caps were on tightly and pointed down. Prepare yourself to look everywhere for replacement markers too. I can't seem to find them anywhere (unless I want to purchase another Glow Board.) It is somewhat difficult to clean, and we have to help him clean the screens. If the project hasn't been on the screen too long, it comes off easily with a damp paper towel, but if left over night, prepare to get the dish soap out and scrub a bit!
It is a neat idea, but with poor execution. It would be cool if Crayola made this board compatible with some of their other markers (maybe something easily replaceable?)
Customer Review: Not worth it! Summary: 1 Stars
We received this as a Christmas present and the kids were excited to play with it. After about 10 minutes of playing, however, we came to the conclusion that there was no convenient way to clean the drawing off the boards! I finally saw somewhere in the instructions to use soap and water - what a hassle. I tried a slightly damp paper towel and it just smeared everything all over. Then I tried baby wipes, same result, but it at least came off somewhat. Drying with a kleenex worked to remove some more residue, but the boards are constantly smeary and really aren't that much fun anymore since you can't see what you're drawing.
The markers also dry out very quickly and the replacement ones aren't cheap! Once the kids forget about this for a while, it's going to the yard sale pile...or the trash.
Very disappointing. :(
