Customer Review: EASY to use & clean, VERY fun

We bought this for our 8-year old daughter for a car trip out of state a month ago that would include some evening driving time. She was very excited to use it and the Dome lived up to her anticipation! I had read the other reviews after purchasing and will admit I was concerned.
Our experience:
All of our markers work perfectly (not dry at all) and seem to be staying same in a ziploc bag (also keeps them together more easily when not in use, although the board itself has ample snap-in storage room for all the markers + 4 extra you can buy).
The drawing surfaces are easy to interchange, snap in and out, and illuminate.
The complete board is lightweight enough to be comfortable for a long period on a lap in a car, and is easy to manipulate without dropping pieces.
The board has been very easy to clean. After reading other reviews, and knowing we would be in the car, I wet (and wrung out) an old lightweight washcloth and put in in a small ziploc bag. It was easy to wipe the board completely and without streaking. The washcloth (even when I used it) left no scratches on our screens. We used a paper (restaurant) napkin to gently dry the board and it left no scratches either. BONUS: the color did NOT transfer from the washcloth onto skin or clothing (I was SO pleased - thanks, Crayola!!). The washcloth rinsed clean almost as soon as it hit the water when we returned home and I washed it; yippee!
Our daughter REALLY LIKES this product. She has a great many (okay, read perhaps 'too many') arts and crafts supplies and 'devices'. She enjoys most of them very much. She was quite impressed (making me so, too) with this Crayola Board and was excited to reuse it.

This was an awesome and innovative product. I purchased several for Holiday gifts. My 2 daughters are grown and away at college, however while home for Christmas, on Christmas morning they each had a Crayola Explosion Glow Board out of the box, under the tree and message flashing: MERRY CHRISTMAS, then the next message flashed: THEIR NAME. Even their boyfriends and other friends their age played around with it during their Holiday break, creating fun and silly pictures and messages. Excellent and fun way to show them at their age, it's ok to still have and enjoy the kid in you. I even purchased one for myself. I tutor a 1st grader in reading and spelling. Every Thursday night, before his Friday spelling test, if he works hard with his homework during the week, we use the Crayola Explosion Glow Board and he spells his words on the board as I call them out to him. Then at school on Friday, when the teacher is calling out that weeks words during the test, he knows his words and had fun learning them. Because he does well, he brings me his test proudly showing his "A" and he then knows he gets to play with the board for "working hard and trying his best". He knows he doesn't have to get an "A", just to work hard and try his best, however because he's enjoying himself and looks forward to playing with the board, getting a good grade comes easy. He has also gained a lot of self-esteem because he's proud of his grades and knows each day what the teacher is talking about in class. It's a great snow ball effect on his confidence and grades. I love to draw on it and see how creative and silly I can be and I'm 45 years old. Excellent gift, Highly recommend it for "KIDS" of all ages. Way to GO!Customer Review: Markers dry out too fast. We bought this for our kids, ages 4 and 10, for Christmas. It comes with a drawing board, markers,two back drops, and neon colored cling stickers/gels. (The gels are a choking hazard so be careful !!) .The drawing board has a clear plastic "window" in the front to draw on and a removable plastic "window" pane in the back. Draw on one or both. The board is back-lit with tiny blacklights and has buttons to press to make the board light up in the front , the back, or it will flash between front and back for a cool 3D effect.
The first headache was that straight out of the package the markers were very dry.Only the yellow worked really well.(Gonna have to find replacement markers!) The second headache was NO ERASER included. To erase you need a wet paper towel or baby wipe and a dry paper towel to dry or the thing gets really smeared and dirty looking. If you let the design dry too long it's harder to clean. Dry erase markers these are not !My 4yo has had trouble erasing.
The "glowing" effect works much better in the dark (as with all black lights). You can see the glow effect in regular lighting but to get the full effect you will have to take it into a dark room.
It's a pretty cool idea and my kids enjoyed it for about 20 minutes. I have played with it a lot more than they have and I am 32. :)
4 improvements that need to be made on this product :
1--Better quality markers !
2--Include some sort of eraser and a place to store it.
3--Make the black lights a little stronger/brighter.
4--Include more back drop designs.

We purchased this item for our daughter for Christmas. It was slated (by my wife) to be the best gift under the tree. While it was well received by our 4 year old daughter, there are some disappointing issues worth noting.
As other reviwers have mentioned, the cleaning of the board is a major design flaw. Using a soft tissue requires pretty heavy handed rubbing (impossible for a young child) - and this technique also led to scratching of the plastic board. Yes thats right - soft tissue scratched the board. Using a moistened wipe just creates a smudged board. As you can see - neither method is ideal. The instructions offer no suggestions on cleaning techniques.
Markers are very dry. A simple man would assert that less dry markers would result in a nicer glow. I can tell after 1 day of use these markers will not be useable much longer.
See the graphics on the box showing the board's drawings "glow"? Don't hold your breath. You can get a decent effect with the lights out - but even then its not brilliant.
Overall - this is just a major disappointment. The commercials for this product make it look great - heck - thats why we bought it! But the end result is a toy that will likely be discarded sooner rather than later.
I recommend moon sand - our daughter hasn't put that stuff down since she opened it! :-)

I just want to agree with a few others regarding this toy. First it is a pain to clean over and over withouth causing damage. The markers dry out faster than you can get the cap back on. The back plastic screen took so much wrangling to even get it to work was a nightmare. It did not line up correctly. I had an easier time putting together A thomas the train canyon railroad with bridges and waterfalls. lol.. had to really jam it in the slot. forget about really leaving it on for display as it doesn't glow much anywhere except for in the dark. So leave it on at night? Well then the batteries run down too quickly. A horse a piece I guess
The good, my mother got each of my children one as they both wanted it. My son is 3 and daughter is 6. They both really do like the color effect in the dark. As of right now they are both ill and it has really held their attention and kept them settled down. (printed new designs at webiste) My daughter wants to keep it turned on outside her room at night so i have to sneak and turn it off.
Very good concept, a few improvements could be made to the durability, structure, and life of the markers.
