As many people have written, I also was very disappointed with the quality of the markers that came with this product. I, too, will be contacting Crayola, as this is certainly not up to their normal high standards. As one of my children said, "What company made this? Crayola? You're kidding? The markers dried out with most of the pictures untouched, but the 3D effect was fun on the few pictures we managed to reveal. I started experimenting with alternatives to the "magic" chemical in the markers. Hand sanitizer works well, but it is much messier than the markers. I like using sponge brushes for the job. I know why it comes with so many markers now. You run out and don't even have enough to finish all of the pages in the book. My kids did have a good time with this product though. I got it for SUPER cheap so it was okay for what I spent. I would NEVER pay more than $5 for this though. It's just not worth it in my opinion.Customer Review: Pen Absorbs Black Coat

The Color Explosion 3D is so much fun. My son loves it a lot. However, the fun doesn't last very long because the pen tip absorbs the black coating and then it becomes shiny and hard which makes it difficult to clear the black coating or to draw anything. I purchased this item for my ten yr. old. Worst thing ever!! A coloring book is way better, at least a child can pick his/her colors and color any way they want. With this all you have to do is wet it and whatever is underneath shows up and messy. Not very creative, more of a rip off!!!
