Toys and Games Reviews of Crayola 30ct Twistables Colored PencilsCustomer Review: Not your traditional colored-pencil finish Summary: 2 Stars
The colors are vibrant and there is an assortment of fabulous colors. However, the waxy material is more crayon-like than a pencil. Unlike regular crayons, I had to use more force than I wished to exert in order to achieve the consistent vibrant color that I sought. I found it impossible to achieve any shading from dark to light. I don't completely regret my purchase, as it is another medium for kids to experiment and be creative, but I can't highly recommend this as a TOY because you have to press hard to get good results, and I can't recommend this as an ART material because you can't achieve the results that can be achieved with real pencils.
Customer Review: Good idea, not ecologically desirable Summary: 3 Stars
Although this is a reasonably good idea, in my book it sits right alongside the electric can opener and electric pepper mill in terms of necessity. If you think about it, Crayola took a regular color pencil which is pretty ecologically neutral (wood, graphite, pigment, etc) and made a plastic version of it that is not refillable nor recyclable. When the lead breaks inside--and it does--the Twistable is basically useless. The only problem I see it solving is when your kid presses too hard and breaks the point, she can twist the end herself, extend the point and keep drawing without having to bother you.
Customer Review: I don't like these Summary: 2 Stars
I love crayola markers, crayons, chalk and paint, but I'm not crazy about these. Besides the fact that they are a big waste of plastic, they also don't draw very well. Colored pencils are really not the easiest to use in general- although they definitely have their place. I thought these were a waste of money. First, you have to press really hard to get these to write in the first place- and then the pencil stick inside is so thick (to prevent breakage) that they're also not very precise. Just stick with regular colored pencils.
Customer Review: Crayola is doing the twist Summary: 4 Stars
This is a combination between pencil and crayons. Built with convenience in mind, now you don't need a sharpener as what you only need to do is twist the bottom. The leads are not as hard as pencil's so it breaks easier, but with just the right pressure it is much better to handle than crayons. Crayons are just the beginning, once they graduated from them, it is much better to use crayon pencils as they can color in smaller details. Seems like modeled from mechanical pencils, but regrettably, "Twistables" offer no refills.
Customer Review: Enjoying them Summary: 4 Stars
I've been buying twistables crayon for my son. I don't end up with broken stub of crayons which my son refuse to use. When my son's teacher asked for color pencils, I got this instead. This eliminates need to sharpen so often. If you let out too much of the colored lead, it will break very easily. However, just a little amount do the job and even my 5 y/o could handle that so I assume everyone could. Only thing that I regret is that this is not refillable which is waste of the plastic casing.
