My fiancee decided she wanted a foam bowling set for her birthday so we could play on the hardwood floors in our hallway without damaging anything. I was skeptical, because the only home bowling set I have any experience with was the plastic one I had as a toddler; the pins in that one would fall over even before you rolled the ball. I expected foam would be just as bad or worse, as I was picturing something like a pin-shaped Nerf ball. I got this for her anyway because I love her, and I have to say, I could not be more pleased with it.
Most importantly, the pieces are soft on the outside, but they've definitely got solid interiors with a little heft to them. The pieces aren't heavy by any means, but they weigh enough that the pins stay where you put them and don't fall over when you walk past. The ball doesn't behave exactly like a real bowling ball, but it's not the oversized whiffle ball I had as a kid, either. All in all, the performance of these pieces is predictable enough that you can play a nice, lighthearted set without feeling like the scoring is based totally on luck.
This set comes with a handy carrying case and a mat to help with pin placement. Because of that and the general quality of the pieces, I would recommend this set over anything cheaper. I'm not sure how these would perform outside, but if you have a suitable space indoors, I think this will definitely entertain children or slightly tipsy adults.
