Toys and Games Reviews of Citiblocs Original Wooden Building Block Set - 200 Pieces

Customer Review: Citiblocs - the BEST building toy!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son owns a fortune in similar building blocks, we've been collecting for years. Citiblocs,a new product, are the same excellent product at a much better price, than Kapla or others in the marketplace.
Citiblocs building blocks are all the same shape and size - perfectly balanced - which is the key. These blocks allow unlimited building potential. It's easy to build big, intricate structures, as high as six feet tall - or however high you can reach, with all sorts of interesting details and additions. My son began using these at six years old. He's almost 16 and still building structures with these blocks. It's amazing what you can do because of the perfect balance of each piece. I know my son has intuitively learned math and engineering while using these blocks. Maybe this is what has sparked his interest in architecture....
Each plank is nicely finished and percisely milled so they are all exactly even. The fine finish and exactly equal weights and size are very important to the success in this type of building. Citibloc planks are identical and interchangable with the other types in my son's collection - thus completely compatible. Citiblocs brings top quality product joined with an affordable price. Thank you Citiblocs!

Customer Review: great concept, poor execution
Summary: 2 Stars

I knew about Kapla blocks from the children's museum and wanted some for home, got seduced by the price of the citiblocs along with all the great reviews. I had high hopes for the blocks, but I have to say that I am very disappointed with the quality. First the accuracy is off, the length of the blocks does not match an integer number of widths which makes many of the designs unstable. In addition to this universal problem with the citiblocs, many of the blocks are warped, or twisted, or non-uniform thickness. To make large complex structures stable, you really need to sort the blocks which is not really a workable solution unless you toss the faulty blocks which kind of negates the price advantage. Made from a light pine, hard to imagine how these could not warp especially with humidity changes. I guess the Kapla "Marine pine" is more stable. I have not tried the Keva Maple blocks, but I would certainly expect the maple to be more stable than then light pine.

Customer Review: Hours of fun for the kids (and us parents)
Summary: 5 Stars

These Citiblocks are a great alternative to the much more pricey Keva blocks and Kaplan blocks. I've tried the Keva blocks at museums that had them on display, and these seem to be almost exactly the same.

My boys (8,6,4 and 2) love playing with these blocks. They create things from houses and garages to jails and jeeps. I have used the catalog that comes with these blocks to build a ship and other vehicles. The only problem with the catalog is that it is not a step-by-step catalog, but only shows one picture of the objects you can create. The main issue with this is that the picture is from one angle, and you can't see how the blocks on the other side are supposed to look. Oh well, they're still a lot of fun, and it's even more fun to create things from your own imagination than from a catalog anyway.

For the price, these are one of the best gifts you can get your kids (warning - one box may not be enough!).

Customer Review: These blocks are great for adults and maybe their kids too!
Summary: 5 Stars

These blocks are much easier to build with than traditional children's blocks and have endless possibilities for OLDER children and adults. You can copy the structures pictured in the little booklet and build some really cool stuff in 15 or more minutes. They are small (4 1/2 x 1 x 1/4") and all exactly the same. My son just turned three. He likes the blocks because we build buildings and trucks for him. However, he finds them difficult to build with because they are so thin. When he stacks them they don't reach very high. He needs our help to build a "tall" tower. When he builds with his traditional Melissa and Doug blocks or his ABC blocks he is able to build a "tall" tower all by himself. For that reason these would not be my first choice for a 2/3 year old. I still love these blocks. I have no doubt he will grow into them in the next couple years.

Customer Review: Not just for building
Summary: 5 Stars

My 6 year old son is an avid builder, and I bought these on a whim thinking they would supplement his block collection. While he does enjoy building structures and vehicles with these blocks, he has also used them for a variety of purposes including creating roads, runways, construction barriers, gates, fences and corrals. The concept is deceptively simple - each piece is the same shape and size, but the possibilities are endless! I can see my son using these blocks for years to come. I am contemplating getting a box of a different color as I could see my son using the blues for oceans, skies, and roofs, etc. Again, endless possibilities. I highly recommend these if you have a child who enjoys building or enjoys creative play.

Kudos also to the manufacturer for using renewable resources and non-toxic materials!
