Gazoobo was a hand-me-down toy from a friend and is a favorite of my grandkids. Needless to say it is durable! The keys are easy to manipulate and provide good decision making skills. Providing exploration of shapes and color the Gasoobo fits easily into little hands and can be used independently. Make believe play with the zoo's animals adds another demension as the "zookeeper" locks the animal's cages for the night as in Goodnight Gorilla. It travels well and lasts and lasts. re: the concerned mother and aunt: Accidents can happen with ALL toys - I am curious to know how old the child was. My 18 month old son took to this toy in seconds. He can sit and play with it for 20 minutes without getting distracted. He does get frustrated with the keys but I know that he is developing necessary skills every time he makes an attempt to open the doors. AND, when he is successful, WOW!!! I bought this for my son for Christmas 1998 and thought it would still be several months before he was able to play with it very well. He fell in love with it and within 4 months had mastered all the shapes and learned his colors from it!!! I wish Amazon had had toys back then because I paid a bit more for it than they ask for it! This toy is really durable because my son tends to throw all his toys and this one hasn't broken yet!Customer Review: Shapes up nicely!

My daughter received this on her 1st birthday and, although it was above her skill level, it kept her attention and has grown with her. Once children master the basic shapes, they can try more complex shapes. It's good for learning colors. The keys (for unlocking the "cages") teach coordination. The only frustration is keeping track of the pieces (which can usually be found in second hand stores).Customer Review: A concerned mother and aunt

My niece received this toy for Christmas. I was very disappointed with the safety of this toy. The edges are too sharp. After playing with it for 5 minutes, my daughter got her finger caught in one of the doors and screamed for 10 minutes. I would not recommend this toy to anyone. We are going to return it and get something safer.
