Toys and Games Reviews of Gazoobo Shape Sorter

Customer Review: Great toy incorporates many different concepts
Summary: 4 Stars

My son received the Gazoobo for his first birthday. As an elementary school teacher I love the fact that it incorporates so many different concepts into 1 toy: colors, shapes, animals, matching, fine motor skills, directional words (top/bottom/side, push/turn, in/out, etc.), patience and tenacity! It is also a toy he will be able to grow with. Initially, he just loved playing with the keys and puzzle pieces. But after a couple months he was able to start putting in the shapes and animals with my help. At 19 months old, he is identifying the animals, some of the colors, matching the keys/shapes/animals to their corresponding doors, and putting the shapes/animals in with very little help from me. Now he is trying to figure out how to put the keys in to the locks and turn them by himself. He still has a long way to grow with this toy: locking doors by himself, learning shape names, imaginative play, etc. He has already gotten hours of fun and learning from the Gazoobo and I know will continue to do so in the next few years.

Customer Review: Finally, a Shape Sorter with Some Cool Shapes!
Summary: 5 Stars

While most shape sorters I've seen offer only boring run-of-the-mill shapes (circles, squares, etc.) this more challenging toy boasts cool animal shapes in addition to the old standbys. Basically, this toy teaches color-matching skills, i.e. the yellow circle goes in the yellow door and the yellow camel goes through the roof of that door. But then there's an added twist -- you have to use the matching-color key to release the shapes from the six different chambers. Unlike many other shape sorters -- where you can cram the oval into the rectangle slot if you push hard enough -- this toy offers no room for error and is definitely suited for toddlers and above. (My baby did, however, have a blast banging around the jangly keychain when he was younger!) As for criticisms, the slots for the animal shapes have some cutout edges that are too rough in my opinion. Perhaps Chicco would consider rounding the slot edges a bit more in the future.

Customer Review: Excellent toy

All you need to do is look at this toy to know it has obvious teaching potential. Saw it in one of our more creative toy stores and bought it. My son when he was 15 months old, and he was fascinated the moment I gave it to him. He still plays at it for long periods, he is now 19 months old. I couldn't keep all of the pieces together, so I remedied this by keeping it in the bathroom along with only a few other toys. Perfect solution - - he plays with it while I shower and get ready. It keeps him quite entertained. The pieces are then easy to pick up and stow in the corner. I have not had problems with the durability or paint, except for one ring which he threw in the damp tub. I did not notice it for over 24 hours and much of the paint chipped off. User error. We love this toy.

Customer Review: Long Lasting
Summary: 5 Stars

My little brother and sister had this toy and it survived them to become a favorite of my daughter's. I just purchased a new one for my son and he loved it. This toy withstood many children before it had to be replaced (due to my misplacing of the keys when we moved). I would recommend this to any parent. As for complaints that the child can not open the doors with the keys. Well, my children figured it out after playing with it for a few months, meanwhile play with the child and "Help" them unlock the doors. Now that my daughter is older (7) she still enjoys helping her brother and sometimes still plays Zookeeper herself.

Customer Review: Great Gazooba!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my oldest grandchild 12 years ago. It has been through 6 grandchildren (I am their daytime babysitter while their moms are at work) so it has had a lot of play time. All six have loved it from the age of 18 months to about 3 years. The other shape sorters lost their attraction after a few months, but the keys on the Gazooba kept them fascinated long after shape sorting became easy. Gazooba teaches shapes, colors, coordination, and provides enough challenge to keep kids coming back to it. This is one of the very few toys I will put away for my great-grandchildren to use in about 20 years!
