Customer Review: Bad Zhu Zhu, bad!!!

I only got these things because I was standing in the customer service line at Toys R Us and all the other mothers were going coo coo for these things and wanted them so bad. They described them as these cute little critters that roam around your house and make different noises. How cute, right? Who wouldn't want a little rat running around your home that doesn't poop all over the place? By the way, they were $9.99 each at Toys R Us. The prices on Amazon are totally ridiculous.
So, I go to work and decide to try one out. First of all it was Fort Knox trying to get the dang thing out of the box. Once I pull it out, it starts making all these noises and the serrated (yes serrated) wheels start to spin out of control and practically sucked my thumb in and pinched it. I put it on the floor and it starts running around, backing up, squeeling and running around the room. All together now..."Awwwwwww." Yes, it was very cute. Until it fell over on it's side and died. So, I picked it up and the damn thing sucked my thumb in again and pinched me a second time. THEN, I'm trying to figure out how to turn it off and it sucks my shirt in!!! So, now I'm shirtless and standing in my office. Okay...not exactly shirtless, but still.
I would not recommend this for a child. Or a 33 year-old. Or a 50 year old. They are just evil little toys that will soon take over the world if we don't stop them from breeding.

We managed to get our hands on five or six of these little guys, and most of their accessories, at our local Toys R Us the week before Christmas with no problems. I feel bad only giving these guys one star because we all really liked the pets and have had a lot of fun playing with them, but my problem with them is that they stop working... like, right away. Two of them started moving slow so we replaced the batteries only to find that they now don't run at all. Sometimes they make noise, but that's it. We still have a few that are working, one of them very slowly, but I have a feeling they're all going to die when it comes time to change the batteries. Absolutely unacceptable. It would be nice to see a recall at some point because I know we're not the only ones that have had this problem. BTW... Aside from the car and the boat, the accessories are total garbage. I wouldn't waste any time or money on them because they are cheaply made and don't stay together or even hold their shape (I'm looking at our lopsided slide as I type this). We have plenty of fun with them on the floor, but the boat and car are pretty cute.Customer Review: Thank God these Zhu Zhu pets work! Have plenty of AAA batteries in stock...

I got up early and was able to get Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters at WalMart. So glad because I know they are selling out stores because I've been calling everywhere.
Anyway, my kids have been playing with them all day. And then hair got wrapped around the little wheel and I thought one had broke so I spent forever trying to get the hair off -- but that's not what was making an additional squealing noise and making the wheels stop turning.
The little Zhu Zhu pets hamsters just needed new batteries. They came with 2 AAA batteries from the manufacturer -- and I'm sure they weren't in the store that long so that little hands could've worn out the batteries thru the "try me" window.
They must've just come with batteries not as good as the ones I changed them into. Because I just popped in some Duracel or whatever batteries -- and now the Zhu Zhu Pets run even faster than when we first bought them this morning.
My children are playing with them as I write.
Now we want all the Zhu Zhu pets in the collection -- and the accessories. Maybe by Christmas or before...
Customer Review: Finally, a cute animatronic critter...but get some accessories...

I have been seeing the trends as various animatronic pets have come along over the years (from the basic barking/walking dog, to Pleo.) My one complaint is that they never disguise it very well that it's a little animal robot--in other words, most aren't that cute.
But these Zhu Zhu Hamsters are adorable, I chose the white one, Chunk, and it's the only I have so far, so I don't know if their personalities really are that different.
I will say that if you get this, you might want to buy another one and/or some accessories for it. The interactions the hamster will have in the various playhouses, tunnels, wheels, slides, cars, etc. is what really makes this more entertaining. (And I say that from both my adult perspective, and making a reasonable guess about how much a youth would enjoy it.)
***A final note: I can't seem to edit the star rating on the educational value. I'm not sure why I initially gave it 3 stars, as I don't really consider it all that educational.***

My mom works at Walmart so she was able to get my sister a Zhu Zhu pet when a new shipment came in the night before Christmas Eve. The thing was fun until it BROKE.
Seriously what can you expect for a $8 toy but now it's been two days since Christmas and the thing won't move anymore. There was one tiny string on the wheel and I took the whole thing apart, cleaned the wheels, changed the batteries and nothing! This was a waste. My sister didn't even know what it was.
For those who couldn't find them, be glad it doesn't last and isn't worth it. I really hate it for the people who went all out and bought all the accessories and stuff. Luckily we didn't.
These toys were clearly cheaply made and I really feel bad for the suckers who paid 3 and 4 times the retail price just so their kids could be happy.
Very dissapointing.
