I was very reluctant to get this for my 4 1/2 yr old for Christmas, but did and am very glad I decided to. It has held up well, and have only had a few broken clips that hold the track pieces together (extras come with the set). My wife replaced the brush on mcqueen with no problems. The cars routinely launch off the track when my kids overuse the turbo button, but the cars are no worse for wear. Some of the decorations are hard to install, but they can be left off or just displayed elsewhere. At first I thought the cars would be flying off the track when at full speed (not turbo), but they rarely do. Dads and not kids have to set this up. Ours lives under the bed in 4 large pieces, and can be put back together in a matter of minutes. 1st set up did take nearly an hour to figure it all out, add stickers, etc. For the next birthday, we are getting the king and some extra track pieces. The Carrera Go is a poorly made product. We had quite a difficult time putting it together Christmas morning, but we eventually figured it out. However, when we were finally ready to then play with the track, it was quite difficult to get the cars to go. The Chick Hicks car works better but the Lightning Mcqueen car just either doesn't go or once it does go, it only goes a couple of feet before getting stuck. The metal feather parts underneath seem to be very touchy and need to be a certain width and height for it to get any distance on the track. I've gotten Lightning McQueen to go around several times but it took a major amount time and effort to get the car just right. It's just too much hassle and my son has absolutely no interest in it. He told me to "send it back to Santa". So, that is what we are doing. I would not waste your money on this product and find something else.Customer Review: Great Set

This is a wonderful beginner's set and provided my son with hours of fun on Christmas day. His father (me) had slot car tracks as a child and none touch this one. I don't understand other reviews that assert the cars do not stay on the track. Of course, you can't go full throttle around turns and through the cross-over sections, but we can open it up on the straight-aways and the cars really stick to the track. I have found no "balance" or weight issues with the cars, either. This is a great set for beginners and a great value. The instructions were very well though out, although some might say they are cryptic. If you take the time to study the key system, it is a snap to put together. I had this whole thing assembled in less than 1/2 hour. This is my son's favorite toy, and I must say it is his dad's favorite toy as well. this product was purchased for my grandson. so far it has been a lot of fun for him. the only problem we have is with the green car that came with the set. it does not stay on the track as well as the red car.i thinkthis could be from a design flaw. if you look at the bottom of the car you will see that it is made differently than the red car. it has mor plastic on the bottom of the car that doesn't allow it to sit as low into the track groove. therefore it comes of the track quite frequently. i intend to fix this problem by purchasing another red car and just paint it another color so racing both cars will be more fun. sometimes he only uses the red car because it stays on the track much better. you guys may want to look into the way the green car is made. it makes a difference! otherwise the layout and design of the track is good.iwould reccomend it to others but not the green car!Customer Review: Give it a chance

I totally understand the frustration the other reviewers are experiencing -- we experienced it too. However, by late on Christmas day, we had all figured out how to control the cars a bit better. We also think that there is some "breaking-in" that goes on in the first day, because I don't think the improvement was all us. Make sure that the brush contacts on the bottom of the cars are lying as flat as possible, which enables the car to sit lower on the track. That helped us. This morning, our kids were happily racing cars back and forth. They don't stay on all the time, but that's part of the fun.
The construction of the toy is solid (though be warned, it is VERY long -- a little over 8 feet). I think it just needs to settle in a bit. Christmas morning, we were frustrated too -- but now it's all working much better. Our kids are very happy with it.
