Toys and Games Reviews of Carrera Go "Disney "Cars" Slot Race Car Set 1:43 ScaleCustomer Review: Disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
First let me say I would never buy this again or any product from this company
Here is why
1) The packaging from the manufacturer appeared adequate however the shipping carton was open in spots and not protective so the internal packaging was damaged resulting in product damage.
2)There was missing parts so the track could not be properly set up. We had to use jury rigged alternatives to attempt to make the track stable.
3)The cars in particular were flimsy and the metal straps that touch the leads on the track kept bending every time they came in contact with the crossover track. This caused the straps to short out and stop the car.
4)As a fix we removed the crossover tracks and had to force the tracks to meet and make a continuous track
not an easy task without shortening the track significantly. This resulted in the cars constantly falling off the track.
5) Customer service was useless. They would not allow a return of the product and said that the cars falling off the track was part of the "Fun" of slot car racing. As far as the missing and damaged parts I am still fighting to get them to send them to me.
6) They will not substitute sufficient track to replace the crossover track and had no suggestion on how to fix the shorting of the straps when the cars hit the crossover
All in all a disappointing experience for my grand children and one that made for a do not buy from this manufacturer.
Others may have a better experience but for me it is a definite "Stay away from this
Customer Review: 5 yr old grandson loves it! Summary: 4 Stars
I read all the reviews before deciding to purchase this set from Amazon.com. Reviews were correct in that it does take a few minutes to look things over and identify all the parts. Assembly takes a bit of patience to understand the unwritten assembly instructions using schematics and pictures, but once you identify the track sections, connectores etc, it moves along pretty good. Took me about an hour to be up and running before my grandson came over for his b'day. (And I'm handicapped because of my hands). Runs great. Faster than I imagined. The cars have a dual brush(2 each side) setup and as long as they're not bent out of position, the cars really hold the track. What a difference from the slot car set I had 40 yrs ago. If you try to lift the cars while plugged in, you can feel a magnettic pull holding them down. My 5 yr old grandson brought this to my attention. After playing with it for awhile, he already had figured out how to re-allign the car's brushes to better hold the track. His 1-1/2 yr old sister has walked on the track frequently and keeps trying to make matchbox cars work, to no avail. Seems durable and stays together so far. Yes, you have to sometimes re-allign the pickup brushes on the cars to work properly after they've left the track. Yes, you have to slow down a bit at the 360* turn. Welcome to slot car racing! My grandson found out more cars are available on line and is already asking me which ones we'll get next. I would recommend this toy to anyone with a minimal amount of common sense and ability, for their kids or grandkids.
Customer Review: An amazing toy Summary: 5 Stars
I first bought a generic slot car set for C$50. It was so useless I threw it away after a few hours. Then I got this for C$100 and it is absolutely fantastic! It is beyond worth the money. It is a quality product and fantastic fun. Any reviews that are not glowing are missing a few key points:
1) It is easy to assemble but you do need to be careful. Lay out all the parts in orderly piles first! This will save loads of time and make it easier to figure out. Do not force the tracks when assembling. Doing so will cause breaks or bad fits. This does take some finesse.
2) Racing the cars actually takes finesse. This means practice. That is a sign of a *good* toy. Not some disposable mindless junk that most toys are. This is old school quality. And persistance pays off. The cars fly off the track and you will get bored - unless you actually try. After 1 - 3 days of practice (depending on age) you get good. There is a turbo button which we all thought was useless. And then we figured it out after a day.
3) Keep care of the electrical brushings on the car. Just brush them with your fingertips or a pliers as needed.
With the above notes, this is actually *better* than the slot cars I had as a kid circa 1980. Usually people bemoan how things get worse. In this case, the reverse is true! I am currently using it with family in town: boys age 3, 4, 5, 7 - plus two dads. We all fight to race it. And my 3.5 year old often does win.
Customer Review: Great toy for beginner slot car experience Summary: 5 Stars
I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews and bought this race set. It's exactly what you'd want for a beginner slot car track. My 3-year old loves it, my 5-year old loves it, and I love it. It's the same experience I remember from when I was a little boy and the "Cars" theme makes it much more exciting for my kids. The quality and durability is more than enough to withstand the playful abuse dished out by my kids (one of whom we lovingly call the 'wrecking ball'). And the details on Lightening McQueen and Chick Hicks are fantastic.
That said, the cars do fly off the tracks if you go too fast. But it's a slot car set. They're supposed to. What fun would it be if they didn't?? The people complaining about that probably never had a set when they were a kid. We did, however, remove the elevated 'flyover' turn and made it a flat hairpin turn. Overuse of the 'turbo' button turns the flyover turn into a ramp where you can launch the cars into the next room. (Fly, Chick Hicks, Fly!) Also, the instructions are amazingly cryptic. In fact, it's almost impossible to even call them instructions. I can see where people have problems translating the pictures/graphics into a working track. But that really is my only issue and once you figure it out assembly is easy.
Overall, we absolutely love this toy. We've already toyed with different track configurations and will definitely buy more Carrera Go cars and track pieces. Enjoy.
Customer Review: Completley useless and frustrating experience Summary: 1 Stars
I seriously can't believe that a toy like this gets approved for production and then is actually sold to consumers. Once you get the track assembled (the directions are frustrating at best) it looks great. Unfortunatley that's where the fun stops. The cars do not stay on the track and are constantly flying off the guides. You have one of two choices when playing with this set. The first choice is to try to go slow so the cars won't fly off the track and that will result in the cars stopping altogether or coming of the guide on the cross-section. The second choice is to try to get enough speed to keep momentum and that results in the cars flipping off the track entirely. The best part about it is the "TURBO" button. This should be labeled the "SELF-DESTRUCT" button as when this is pushed the cars will catapult themself off the track leaving you to have to find where they landed. I will be returning this and looking for something else for my son. I wish I would have read the original review here as I would have been hesitant to make the purchase. I am writing this review in order to warn anyone that plans on purchasing this...you will be frustrated from the beginning of assembly all the way to when you actually try to race the cars. Now my frustration will continue as I have to disassemble this and return it ASAP.
