I bought this for my daughter's eighth birthday. She asked for a microscope and after reading reviews, I chose this one. So far, we have really enjoyed it! It's easy to use, and works well. My daughter loves it! She's been looking for things to view EVERYWHERE and her friends even ask to play with it when they come to visit. Definitely worth the price! We bought an extra set of prepared slides, but you wouldn't need that, because you can have more fun finding things yourself! As far as durability, there is a degree of "carefulness" you have to teach, but completely appropriate for my 8-year-old.Customer Review: excellent choice for a first microscope

When Ben (10 years old) opened this gift for Christmas, he was able to start enjoying it right away. It is simple to use and very durable. It is neat that there is a light on the top as well as the bottom so that opaque items can be seen up close as well. Within minutes Ben and his siblings were fascinated by checking out paper with print on it, hair, an onion peel, and more. My only suggestion might be to include more by way of prepared slides. However, it is also good for them to make their own and have their own ideas, too. Plus, the price was an absolutely fantastic value.Customer Review: Want to ruin a Holiday, birthday etc.

My son is very interested in science. So get him a microscope right? The Christmas gift idea was ruined since the light projection switch stopped working on the first day. Now I have to contact the manufacturer, probably ship it back etc. You would think that the product would last more than 1 day.
I enjoy shopping shopping on Amazon and have done so for quite some time. The company should dump products that don't perform. Now I have to haggle with the manufacturer through the warranty process in the morning. What a great Christmas gift.

My 10 year old daughter just received this microscope for her birthday. She LOVES it. She said it is one of her most favorite gifts she's ever received. This is a great first microscope with many features. There are 3 levels of magnification and two light sources which provide many different views of objects. The scope is well-built and I'm sure will last for many years of enjoyment. I also purchased "The Usborne Complete Book of the Microscope" and several sets of prepared slides. The book and slide sets are wonderful. Overall, a great purchase!Customer Review: Great scope for my boy

My 8 year old loves this scope. He uses it almost every day and looks at all sorts of objects under it. It is great that it has two lights (above and below) that can be used for different objects. Have had no problems focusing scope and it seems very sturdy. Good microscope for the price. I have a biology degree and was pleased to see the controls on this scope are simple for children to use. Comes with necessary tools, stains, etc..... Only wish it had a more durable cover than simply the plastic bag. But it is a good quality beginner scope.
