Toys and Games Reviews of My First Lab Duo-Scope Microscope

Customer Review: great little learning tool and lots of fun
Summary: 5 Stars

Great microscope. We like being able to use both the upper and lower lights to look at a variety of objects. I bought it for a 5 yr old, so she is a little young, but is very interested in looking at it. She gets tired quickly--it is hard for her to close one eye and focus, so we just look at one thing at a time. I focus it for her, but she does like to turn the knob and try to do it herself first. We have lots of fun thinking of silly things to look at. She likes to use the dye to color the slides herself. I wish I had also bought extra prepared slides, though. It's pretty lightweight and with no cord, I could totally imagine taking it with us on walks, etc.

Customer Review: excellent microscope !
Summary: 5 Stars

For christmas, my 5 year old asked for a microscope. I bought an Edu Science brand one from ToysRUS that was originally $30, but it was onsale for $15. It was a big waste of money. I wasn't expecting much from it, but you can't even see a thing with it. So I searched online and found the My First Lab Duo-Scope microscope. It's an awesome buy! The lenses worked great. My son participated in the science fair for kindergarteners so we were able to use this microscope! I was able to take a picture through the lens to include it on the science board. I can't say enough about this microscope. It's not that expensive, yet it works like ones you might find in schools!

Customer Review: Indoor Fun!
Summary: 4 Stars

I just bought this microscope for my two kids who are ages 5 and 10. I figured it would be a fun way to spend some of our winter days here in snowy Ohio. My 5 year old thought it was pretty neat and had some fun looking at slides, but my 10 year old daughter has spent hours glued it! We are still trying to figure out how to get the 400x magnification to work clearly. I welcome any suggestions for that. Overall, this is a fabulous way for your kids to have fun and study some really cool stuff! Very glad I bought it. I would have given it five stars except for the 400X magnification problem that could be users error. Hope this helps.

Customer Review: design flaw?
Summary: 2 Stars

bought this after reading the good reviews for this microscope.

There is a fundamental design flaw (unless I got one with a mfg defect). Objects seen through the eyepiece appear laterally inverted. When I placed penny on the stage with the 'Lincoln side' of the penny facing upwards, Lincoln's face points to the right in the penny, but when viewed through the eyepiece, the faces points to the left!! This lateral inversion makes it very counter-intuitive and difficult to get the desired area of interest into the field of view in the eyepiece.

Needless to say, it was a frustrating experience for my kid.

Customer Review: Great Scope!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought my 8 year old a science kit for his birthday and the microscope that came with it was very disappointing. After a lot of searching on the web, I found this one which was in my price range and had great reviews. My son and I have had so much fun looking at slides and solid objects under the lens. It reminds me of the kind of microscopes I used in high school biology. On the highest setting, it's hard to focus, but the 2 lower settings are so great, you hardly need the highest magnification. I know he'll be using this scope for many years, yet it's simple enough for him to enjoy now as well.
