Toys and Games Reviews of My First Lab Duo-Scope MicroscopeCustomer Review: This is the microscope your child is asking for Summary: 5 Stars
If you're like me you are looking for a first microscope for your child or grandchild (my child is 5). You'll see that there are a lot of "cheap" microscope sets out there.....AVOID THEM ALL as they will likely ruin your child's budding interest in science. The "My First Lab Duo-Scope" is exactly what you are looking for. You take it out of the box, pop a battery in and it works. It's STURDY, has three viewing settings and has an eyepiece that kids can easily look through. You can either look at prepared slides (I'd buy an additional set of prepared slides too)or make your own (haven't done that yet). With this microscope, however, you can even look at objects around the house (like pennies, paper, fiber, etc.) because this is also a stereo scope! This is probably a few more dollars than you were thinking about spending, but trust me, you're better off spending $30 more and getting this one that really works (and won't break in 3 days)!
Customer Review: Excellent for homeschoolers Summary: 5 Stars
In my quest to look for a decent microscope, I found that most were far too expensive. A parent gets caught up in "how much can you get for your money" or the worries of "will it be worth the money?" This microscope is excellent for the price. You can see details on slides easily with each of the magnification pieces. We even put a sample of skin underneath and the cells could be seen. The box comes with dyes, blank slides, tweezers, and many other items. It's excellent for young children as well as adults. It's absolutely perfect if you are homeschooling. It's light, portable, uses batteries so you can go outside to be near samples, etc. The first thing that will initially throw you off is the box that the scope arrives in. It looks like a toy and gives you the feeling as if you've just wasted your money. But the actual item is of great quality! Don't get scared and purchase an expensive scope when this one will do what you need and want.
Customer Review: A great microscope for the price Summary: 5 Stars
My 9 year old son really enjoyed the microscope work they had done in science class this year, so I decided to get him one for Christmas. I asked his science teacher for recommendations and one of her recommendations was this type of microscope. I was able to find it reasonably priced through Amazon, although it did not come from Amazon. It actually came from American Science & Surplus. It came very quickly. The microscope itself is very nice. It's lightweight and easy for my son to handle. It comes with everything you need to get started and even has a dust cover. My son was able to set it up himself and showed us how to work it. He was very pleased that it was just like the ones he had at school. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 because it is a microscope after all and you do need to be careful with it, but it appears to be able to handle a 9 year old. He learned how to handle it in school, but isn't as gentle as an adult would be.
Customer Review: Execllent! I'd totally recomend this! Summary: 5 Stars
I am 12 years old and I love science. In particular, I love microbiology. It only took me a month of minimal working to earn enough money to by this microscope. I got it before the expected date and in very good condition. It was perfect! I could see individual cells on my finger. I killed an insect to get its blood and put the blood on a slide. It was still moving! Looking a pond water was fun too. I could clearly see microorganisms. I am currently growing mold with my petri dish and I can't wait to look at it under my new microscope! It came with prepared slides (very interesting), dies, a test tube, a medicine dropper, tweezers, blank slides, a concavity slide, slide labels, a cover glass, scalpel, forceps, lens paper, a petri dish, a straight teasing needle, and vinyl dust cover. The microscope is great for kids trying to learn about "the tiny world around them".
Customer Review: the best microscope Summary: 5 Stars
This was given to an 8 year old as a christmas gift. She loves science and loves exploring her environment. The microscope is a nice quality. IT comes with a dust cover but no hard case. It's electronic and has a light bulb instead of a mirror which helps her a lot. It's not overly complicated but advanced enough to keep her entertained for a while. It does come with some not-so-child-friendly pieces that may need to be taken away from younger kids. She makes her own slides and loves looking at carpet fibers, gold flakes, grass, anything. She plays with this more than her video games and dolls. I recommend that you buy a microscope book for kids to go along with it. I used my old Biology book but she needs help with it. I also bought some additional slides to look at. I recommend this product for inquisititve kids and adults even.
