The device is useful for cutting quartz tubing. We cut a lot of 5mm outer diameter tubing. It takes 5 minutes of practice but is straight forward. Glass tubing (or any glass for that mater) just needs a small score or nick and then is snaps easily because all the stress gets concentrated there. No need to score all the way around. I'd say 1/3-1/2 around is sufficient. Do not apply too much pressure or you will snap through. Score the glass then grasp the ends and quickly snap. The glass fractures reasonably cleanly. With practice I got a +/1mm length tolerance. Do not expect a perfectly smooth and perpendicular end. You will need another tool or process to achieve this.
