Toys and Games Reviews of Double Shot Rifle w/ 6 darts & 4 shellsCustomer Review: Stick'em Up Cowboy Summary: 4 Stars
I'm a really big kid at hart so when I was making my Halloween costume this year I wanted a shotgun to fit the look. Low and behold this Nerf-style shotgun. It's like they heard my dreams as a child. It's look and feel are right on the money, and the color makes sure no one will think it's anything but a big toy gun.
The darts travel a good distance. Don't let you kids (or adult friends that act like kids) got shooting someone up close as they can sting on bare flesh (as if I had to say that), but that's a good thing. It means there is some real power driving those darts out the barrel. The cocking/loading can intimidate some as my niece was worried she would break it but it clearly was made to take the strain from pulling it that tells you when to stop (a loud click in the breach). You can see what looks like a superfluous hammer in the breach at first bit is meant to warn you you've done your job cocking it.
I love the idea of the shells casings and wouldn't trade them in, but if I where to make one complaint it is that is should be able to fire the darts with/or without the shells. That way if your in the mood to load up the shells and start blasting away you can, but if your not in the mood to catch or find the shells after they eject you don't have to. It's a small complaint, but it is one. It's the same complaint I have for the Winchester rifle they also have (which I love too by the way). This is the only reason I wouldn't give it a Five Star rating.
Bottom Line: It is loads of fun and I would recommend it to anyone that is even slightly considering buying it.
Customer Review: Despite a few flaws, an awesome product Summary: 4 Stars
Nerf guns are one of the few toys that transcend age and appeal to just about everyone. They're solid, safe fun. Not having any experience with Air Blasters brand guns, I was hesitant, but intrigued by the concept of a Nerf shotgun. And at $10 in the store, I thought I'd give Air Blasters a chance. I'm glad I did.
Being fully plastic, the gun is fairly creaky and light, but feels durable enough. After several hours of almost constant use, there are no cracks or faults in the plastic. It's constructed solidly. The size is nice too, being neither toy-like or too realistic in its scale. But where this product really shines is the shell loading and unloading. The darts are inserted into plastic cartridges, which are fed into the chamber like a real double-barreled shotgun. After the darts are fired, the spent shells eject from the chamber. It's novel and fun, and the feeling of slamming the shells into the chamber and clicking it into place, primed and ready to fire, is not going to get old fast.
The only problem I have encountered with the gun is the occasional jam. Often enough to be bothersome, the darts will jam for no apparent reason, and only one or neither will fire. It's a bit frustrating to load the gun, stand from cover, and shoot nothing but a couple of blanks. Fiddling with the shell cradles will often resolve the trouble.
Despite these flaws, you really can't beat a Nerf war with a few of these things. They're authentic-feeling and cool, and you can't help but feel awesome feeding the shells and firing them off.
Customer Review: Buzz Bee Double Shot Summary: 5 Stars
These things are so much fun.
1) Power: The double shot is one of the most powerful and accurate dart guns out there. I've hit the tips of people's feet across entire rooms before.
2) Capacity: Possibly the worst aspect of this gun, you have a whopping two shots before about a ten second reload.
3) Reliability: I have bought three of these in my whole life. The first one was amazing, it never jammed, and it shot perfectly every single time. The next two I bought together after the first one broke after about 6 months of constant use. I thought it would be really intimidating to my friend to see my charging him with two sawed off double barrel shotguns. (by the way, sawing off the barrels was a mistake; don't do it) Anyway, there were not reliable in the slightest. The darts came out of the barrels probably six times out of ten. They were awful. So I guess it really depends on the specific gun that you have.
4) Fun: I think I love this gun so much because of how rewarding and satisfying it is to unload two barrels simultaneously into someone's face. Its break action is also very smooth and pleasing.
5) Size: This gun is ludicrously teeny. I don't blame the manufacturer, since it was made for small kids, but still, don't overestimate it.
I think that for the price, this is the best gun out there. Perfect as a secondary gun, having your first be maybe a firefly. And don't forget the number one rule of nerf: ALWAYS, ALWAYS KEEP A MAVERICK ON YOU!
Anyways, yeah, get the double shot; you won't regret it.
Customer Review: Poor Design Summary: 1 Stars
I bought two of these guns for my kids today to have battles with their cousins who have real nerf clip loaded semi-automatic rifles. Needless to say, they will never get to use them in battle. This gun will easily jam or hardly shoot if the dart is just slightly bent. The darts must remain perfectly straight. I mean perfect in order to shoot correctly. After about 3 or 4 shots your darts will not be straight then they will jam against the spring that ejects the shells inside or rub on the inside of the barrel as they are projected. In most cases they will never leave the barrel and when they do they do not travel far or straight. I do not know how it is possible that every other reviewer did not experience the same problems. Your darts will get bent just through general use. The gun does function like a real shot gun. The shells eject after the shots are fired. You have to reload the shells with new darts then put them back into the chamber before firing again. It is a slow process but probably good for teaching young hunters how a real shot gun works. I think most kids just want to blast each other not waste time reloading and picking up discharged shells. This gun even if it was designed to function trouble free would still have huge disadvantages over fully automatic or even semi-automatic guns. Both guns are going back to the store.
Customer Review: Great Fun Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased two of these for my 4yr old as an impulse, since I found them on sale at a very low price ($7). OK, I admit, one was for me.
I have to admit the guns are a lot of fun. It is very satisfying to break open the gun and have the two spent shells launched out of the barrel. The range of the shots is about 15 to 25 feet, which is perfect for basement target practice.
I agree with other reviewers that this wouldn't be great for a mock battle, but it's for the same reason you never see pictures of any modern military forces with breech loading double barrel shotguns; they are slow and cumbersome to reload. Also, my 4yr old struggles a little to cock the gun, and pull the trigger, but I don't think it would be a problem for any child old enough to use it unsupervised.
The darts could stand to be a little more durable. As soon as they disform, even a little, they start getting stuck in the barrel. I plan to try some of the nerf brand darts to see if they are any better, as some others have suggested.
My wife initially raised concerns about providing simulated guns to our son, but she quickly learned that any attempt to discuss the subject would trigger the release of two foam darts directly into her midsection, and she has since learned to relax a little.
