Toys and Games Reviews of Double Shot Rifle w/ 6 darts & 4 shells

Customer Review: A Decent Buy
Summary: 4 Stars

Durability: Of the three I've had in the past 3+ years, only one broke when its elastic gave way. In all fairness, I also had been fiddling with the innards a few days prior to its breaking, and had already had that specific one for over a year. There has been some loss of power as they've gotten older; the newer one has slightly more "umphf" than the remaining older one. Still for a toy that costs about $10, 3 years is a pretty good lifespan for stuff made these days.

Ease of Use: The shotgun breaks cleanly, but is harder to cock than any other other foam-dart gun I've ever used. The shells are cumbersome, and reloading the gun does take longer than simpler single-shot models. I recommend buying additional shells and having several prepared instead of trying to reload them on the spot. On a rare occasion, darts have gotten stuck when firing, but no more so or less so than any other blaster. Other reviewers have remarked about using "perfectly straight" darts. To be honest, if you are using bent darts in any type of breech-loading foam-dart gun, you're going to have problems.

Power/Range: Out of the box, it's not bad. The guns fire about 20' - 30' out of the box. The range and power does deteriorate with age, again something not uncommon.

Modifications: There are several web-sites that provide instructions on how to modify the shells. Using these mods, I managed to get an average range of 65' on bench tests (yes, I'm that much of a nerd that I bench-test my Nerf guns. Thank you.) The furthest distance was about 85'. There are also the standard modifications that involve the replacement of the O-rings and the springs, but I haven't bothered with them. I have also sawed off the barrels down to just before the fore-grip; this reduces the chance of the darts getting stuck or bouncing around in the barrel when fired.

Educational: Well, if you want to teach your kid how to load a double-barrel shotgun, I suppose you could call it educational.

Fun: These guns are great. They've got a comfortable weight to them, and they look cool. I've had other nerf-herders stop in mid-battle asking about them, and even had offers to buy them off of me. They are not the kind of gun you want to use for an extended firefight, but work nicely for "hunter" type missions. You can also use those holsters for power drills to carry them on your belt (definitely saw-off the barrels for this if you want to do quick-draws.)

Overall: I don't recommend it to anyone under 10 years old, but for older kids and adults it's a great side-arm or backup gun. As with any inexpensive plastic toy, quality may vary.

Customer Review: Get ready for the Nerf apocalypse!
Summary: 5 Stars

It has finally happened. The warring nations of this world have had enough, and one country managed to press the red button. It doesn't matter which one, but the result was that each of the other countries pressed their buttons and the sky darkened with the impending doom of millions of Nerf rounds raining down upon the works of man. You've managed to survive the Nerf apocalypse, but so have others. Can you tell friend from foe? In this Nerf wasteland you need to be properly armed and supplied. This BuzzBee shotgun is a good start, but you must make some modifications prior to your ventures into the wastelands. Before I get to that though, there is some other equipment you need to purchase.

The first item you need is a kick'n leather jacket with plenty of pockets to carry your shells. The jacket should be black and have plenty of zippers. If at all possible it should be a dirty police motorcycle jacket. It's not crucial, but that detail helps.

Next you'll need about 15 to 20 pounds of beef jerky. I prefer teriyaki style, but to each his own. This jerky should serve to keep you nourished while you search for other survivors.

A first aid kit will come in handy. You should have plenty of ace bandages for twisted ankles and even gauze should you be accidentally struck in the eye. A gel ice pack will help heal the deep bruises and welts you sustain, should you be unlucky enough to get into a crossfire with mutant musclemen or, Todd from accounting.

Finally you'll need a dog, preferably a Blue Heeler or German Sheppard. You must train this dog to respond to the name "Dog" or even "Dogmeat". He/she should be your faithful companion and he should be able to read your mind and execute commands with minimal verbal or physical interaction. This may be difficult to accomplish.

Ok now that you're ready to go out, your weapon needs a few modifications. Some metallic and deep brown spray painting will add to the realism. Next, and this is tricky, take a saw and carefully cut about four inches off the barrel and cut the back of the stock off. Fill in the handle with either caulk or putty. I caution you that once you've sawn down the barrel you've given up quite a deal of accuracy. However, what you've lost is more than made up for by the raw blasting power and wicked cool look of your new and improved shotgun.

Now you're ready. Go forth and conquer!

Customer Review: The Basics
Summary: 5 Stars

Attention All I have seen many bad reviews about this product. Read this for the Basics
The Toy is not perfect, but not a piece of junk. First of all, the right barrel is more powerful then the left and loading take a little while. It is not good for beginners.
The gun is a good value, though. It has almost perfect accuracy and an easy cock. Another feature is that even though it is a double barrel gun, you have the option to shoot the darts one at a time or at the same time (if you shoot the darts one at a time, the left barrel is almost as powerful as the right).
This may seem weird to you, but the toy is very educational (children, do not bring this to school). My grandfather had a shot gun (not double barrel, though) and it loaded the same way as this gun. The gun includes darts and SHELLS, like in the real guns.
Cocking may be one reason why there are so many bad reviews. To cock the gun, you must press the rectangular orange button on the top of the gun. After it is opened, put the butt end of the gun on your lap and push the barrel downward until you hear a click. Let the barrel go.
Loading must be done in advance. To load, put the dart (foam rods with suction cups) into the shells (the orange plastic pieces). There are holes in the darts and rods in the shells. Put the dart's hole over the shell's rod and press down. Put the loaded shell into the right barrel and put the other one (if you want to) in the left barrel. To put the loaded shells into the barrels correctly, cock the gun, and push the dart through the back of the barrel (where you cocked) for as far as you can. Then let go. If it comes out, try again. It happens.
To shoot one dart at a time, pull the trigger softly. To shoot the darts at the same time, pull the trigger hard.
After that, you press the same rectangular orange button. But be ready; the shells are about to fly out! To "catch" the shells, have your hand near the back of the barrel, press the rectangular orange button and when you feel the shells (now unloaded), grab them and put them in the compartment in the butt end of the gun.
To open the compartment in the butt end of the gun, pull the blue part up.
The BuzzBee Ruff Stuff Air Blasters Double Shot Blaster Gun is truly a good gun. BUY IT! YOU WILL NEVER REGRET Review: Fun for Kids AND Adults!
Summary: 5 Stars My friends wanted to play a little "Nerf Wars" so we stopped by Target to check out the array of dart guns to choose from. I was reluctant at first to spend any money on dart guns on the simple fact that I'm 22 and it seems like a childish thing to do. Nonetheless I was intrigued by the double shot for it's realism and by the time we were outside playing, by jove, I was having a great time.

This double shot is awesome for so many reasons. You get two levels of gratifications--first with cocking the gun, and then with the shells ejecting themselves from the barrel when you're reloading. The range is surprisingly far; for a name brand I've never heard of, it exceeded the ranges of both the other Nerf guns that my friends purchased. The butt of the rifle opens up so you can store about 4 more shells, although I imagine a sack full of shells loaded with the darts belted to your waste would be a lot better and efficient. The only thing I wish the double shot also had was pumping action. Just imagine: Loading individual shells and having them click into place, snapping the rifle shut, pumping it, firing, then having the shells expel themselves from the chamber as you're unloading--SWEETNESS. I also forgot to mention, the trigger is actually two stage. Squeeze the trigger a little and one shot fires; squeeze a bit more and the second goes. Or you can unload both into somebody at the same time.

We must have played for half an hour the other night. The ground was just strewn with darts and shells. I'm NOT a big fan of gun games typically--especially paintball or airsoft. The equipment is expensive, and it hurts. But with dart guns you have a degree of mobility attributed to the fact that dart guns don't hurt and they're wildly inaccurate. So you can be running here and there while shooting and reloading and just be having a ball.

This is the best 10 bucks I've spent in awhile. If buzz bee toys ever udpates the double shot with pumping action and new colors (I'm thinking hot pink, white and a purple butt to the high-viz orange/yellow/neon green it's got going currently) I will totally drop another 10 for it!

Customer Review: More fun than a duck hunt with Dick Cheney
Summary: 5 Stars

While perusing the Nerf®© aisle at my local Target retail store for the perfect weapon, I came upon this beauty and another Nerf branded gun. Both had their merits. The other firearm was stamped with the Nerf logo and brand, a sacred symbol of trust and quality amongst foam dart aficionados. It could transform into three different weapons to boot. The BuzzBee, while an off-brand product, looked pretty damn cool and was selling for a mere 10 United States Dollars. As I wiped sweat from my brown and considered my difficult decision, a midget muse appeared before me. No more than 10 years old, he had the wisdom of a centenarian. My fellow Nerf warriors and I listened in stunned silence as he offered his advice: "I own pretty much all of these guns. That shotgun is waaaaaay better than the Nerf gun. It shoots further than the other one, and the Nerf gun broke faster." Then, as quickly as he had appeared, he was gone. Though I regretted not being able to thank our guide, my decision was made.

This gun is awesome. Despite the fact that it's hard to take anyone wielding a yellow and neon green nerf shotgun seriously, I feel like a veritable badass every time I pick this thing up. Ejecting the shells after a carefully placed shot is an experience of pure, blissful joy. I sawed off the barrel and now look even stupider and feel even cooler. Nerf gang wars anyone? As a college student with a severely limited nerf budget, the price here is right. I'll tell you this: target practice with the BuzzBee Ruff Stuff Air Blasters Double Shot Blaster Gun beats studying Advanced Psychology Research Methods any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Higher praise is hard to come by.
