Toys and Games Reviews of Busy Basics Busy Ball Choo-Choo

Customer Review: Great Toy
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this toy for my daughter when she was 6 months old. She is now almost 11 months and it is her favorite toy.

When we bought it for her she could not crawl well and could not get into a sitting position on her own. She really didn't enjoy the train until she got those two skills down, but she always loved playing with the balls! They are the perfect size and weight for her to grab onto.
Now she loves playing with the train. The button is easy to push and she loves the music (She always dances when it starts playing). She loves watching the balls go around too. And trying to grab them before they fall. This train keeps her entertained longer than any other toy she has. It is always a popular toy when we have preschool age kids come to visit too.
She is always trying to stick "creative" things into it. This hasn't caused any problems though because the opening is big enough that it is easy to get stuff out of it.
Also, we have not had any problems with the lightweight build of the balls. They do smash easily, but we have always been able to pop them back into the right shape easily... we don't have a pet so I can't comment on the damage they would do and they have never gotten smashed completely-- that might be a different story.
Fingers can get pinched as the balls go down. We have had that happen a couple of times, but the pinches were not bad and crying over it has never lasted longer than it took to push the button again. My daughter doesn't cry easily though, so if your baby is more sensitive this might not be a good choice.
The music is a little loud. That is the one big drawback. I will say that at least it is not a high-pitch, annoying noise like you get with so many baby toys-- Just too loud.
Great toy overall. I would definitely recommend it.

Customer Review: Busy Ball Choo-Choo vs Busy Ball-Tivity Center
Summary: 4 Stars

This was an item I purchased for my 9 month old grandaughter BUT my 3 yr old grandaughter is the one that plays with it! It does have kid-safe control levers on each side of the Choo-choo... one is to control stationary or mobile and the other is to have the balls cycle within the Choo-choo or come out the back.

The levers need a stronger degree of fine motor skills and it does have music that plays so it is a toy that the under 1 yr set can be entertained with and grow into as motor skills develop.

There is a switch underneath to turn the toy on and off and there is a button on the top that activates the toy which a child can easily use. The Choo-choo has a short time it runs once activated then it automatically shuts down... it doesn't just keep running. I wish it ran longer, but that is strictly a matter of opinion/choice, some may prefer the shorter run time.

I bought the Busy Ball-Tivity Center at the same time and the balls can be inter-changed with the Choo-choo...a definite plus!

IMO: Motor-skills wise the Busy Ball-Tivity Center is GREAT to assist in development, there are challenges a child can seek there; with the Choo-choo there are limited challenges for a child, but it is a very cute toy.

FYI---If you could only buy one THE hands-down favorite of both grandchildren is the Busy Ball-Tivity Center!!! Hope this helps you make a more informed purchase.

Customer Review: Perfect Toy for Ball-Loving Baby!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Busy Basics Busy Ball Choo-Choo for my 9 month old son for his first Christmas. I purchased this toy as an afterthought because it was inexpensive and unique. My son loves balls, so I hoped he would enjoy this toy.

The Busy Basics Busy Ball Choo-Choo is his favorite toy. It is the perfect size for a small baby. It is light enough for him to lift and move without adult assistance, and just the right height for him to watch the balls popping around inside it. He is also able to reach the power button easily and doesn't need any help turning on this toy. There is no volume control feature on this item, but the music volume is just right, unlike many other electronic toys for infants that are often loud and obnoxious.

The different play modes keep this toy interesting. It can remain stationary or drive around in a circle at just the right speed for a crawling baby to chase after it. The balls can remain inside the train, which is helpful for keeping track of the parts, or the balls can be dispensed behind the train as it moves, which is fun for a crawling or walking child.

Overall, this toy was the best money we've ever spent on any toy for our son. He uses it everyday and he absolutely loves it!

Customer Review: Our baby's other top Christmas gift!
Summary: 5 Stars

Our 9 month old finds this toy absolutely fascinating. He loves watching the balls go around and likes to stick his hand in it and get a ball as it's coming out. He's figuring out that he can stick his hand inside and pull a ball out too. He looks into the train to try to figure out how it works and looks on the side and bottom too because he likes wheels. We leave it in the non-moving setting since he doesn't crawl or walk yet but I'm sure he's going to love going after it once he's independently mobile. Other reviewers have complained that it doesn't move on carpet, but it moves fine on our area carpet and downstairs carpet. It even moves on the blanket we have him play on as long as the blanket isn't bunched up. And the music is very tolerable for mom and dad and not loud at all. Our friend got us the matching ball popper and that thing is loud! It went into the closet. But now we have extra balls for the train.
2 months later--his absolute favorite toy. He goes for the train as soon as he gets out of his high chair and dances to the music. Loves, loves, loves it.

Customer Review: Do I have the same toy?
Summary: 2 Stars

My long-awaited, spoiled baby daughter has so many toys a lot of our friends comment that we should open a daycare center (no thanks!). This is one of the toy purchases I truly regret. I am putting it in the attic because it NEVER gets used. I keep showing it to my baby, who's now 21 months old, but we both think the same thing - BORING. BTW, we've had it for about a year now, and she's never been interested in it, so I don't think she ever will be. Save your money and buy the Playskool Busy Ball Popper instead - loads of fun for about the same amount of money. As an added bonus, even the older kids from the neighborhood love to play with the Ball Popper (even up to age 14), especially when it has fresh batteries and the balls pop all over the place! Take my advice - if you're trying to decide between these 2, get the ball popper and leave this one behind.
