Toys and Games Reviews of Bruder MAN Cement MixerCustomer Review: Lots of fun for truck lovers of all ages Summary: 5 Stars
We got this cement mixer for our son two years ago, when he was not quite 3 years old. From the first day, he was thrilled. I think he liked that it was bigger than his other toy trucks. He had no trouble figuring out how to make all the parts work, and has played with it pretty regularly since then. Overall, it's a nicely detailed, sturdy truck, that has provided him with many hours of entertainment.
Some of the parts of the truck do come off from time to time - the hose gets disconnected, the pail doesn't stay hanging on its hook, even the main mixing cylinder has been known to come off from time to time. The nice thing, though, is that they're easy to reassemble, and the parts themselves haven't broken, even with a couple of years of not-so-gentle use. In my book, that counts toward the "durability" rating. They're a bit more expensive than some of the alternatives, but the quality is much higher, as well.
Overall, we've been very pleased with this truck. We got our son another truck from Bruder last year, and will get another one this year. He loves them, too, and that's the best testimonial of all.
Customer Review: I've bought a lot of Bruder Trucks but this one isn't made to last. Summary: 2 Stars
The blue part is simply blue duct tape that peels off on the corners after one day and the side view mirrors are as flimsy as can be and the end of the hose came off in one minute and kids will tend to put sand in the gas tank when it is only intended for water so your tank will be clogged quickly and it's tough to clean it out- and it wasn't just my kid but every kid at the park who tried to put sand in the gas tank. Oh and sand getting stuck in the interior cracks and crevasses is making turning the handle (which moves the drum) harder and harder. I love Bruder but this truck isn't made as well as their others. I WILL SAY THAT: even though it has the aforementioned faults causing it to get old fast- it's still one of my son's favorite trucks. FINAL THOUGHTS: If you child LOVES cement trucks in particular, get this... otherwise go with another type of bruder truck or go with a Tonka (we've had great luck with them- they are build to last and are less expensive than Bruder).
Customer Review: Realistic working parts = favorite toy!! Summary: 5 Stars
My 4 year old son received this for Christmas last year and hasn't gotten tired of it yet! He loves that he can turn the barrel and mix up his "cement" (usually water, pebbles and dirt!) and it comes out of the chute! He also loves using the water hose that takes water from the little tank on the top. The nozzle of the hose is not secured well and can be a choking hazard when it comes off, so take that into consideration when allowing a small child to play with it. The truck has proven to be very durable. It still looks great almost a year after purchase and has been played with constantly! This brand of trucks is a little pricey, but well worth the money! You get what you pay for with toys- so spending your money on a durable and engaging toy that isn't played with for a week and then forgotten is money well spent!
Customer Review: Love Bruder Trucks Summary: 5 Stars
We have several Bruder trucks (9, to be exact). Some we have had for years. They are played with almost daily and are always popular when the kids have friends over. Our boys love the interchangeable attachments and all the movable parts. The cement mixer is a big hit because you can put small items in the barrel, then turn the crank and they come out the chute. The kids use lite brite pegs, pretend they are cement and pour them into forms made out of blocks. I like that the trucks are plastic (no sharp metal edges), but sometime pieces do break off. Not often, and nothing critical to the toy's function, but it does happen. If you are looking for something to play crash derby with, these are probably not your best bet. In general they are great toys. We recommend them to friends and will definitely buy others.
Customer Review: Expensive piece of plastic Summary: 1 Stars
The all plastic and decal construction of this cement mixer was a big disappointment right out of the box. The shoddy quality and extremely low durability leave a lot to be desired in a child's toy. Bruder, the manufacturer, claims to be a German maker of "high quality" toys for over 90 years. This makes me think Mercedes and BMW but clearly I am mistaken. Today the cement mixed lies broken in several pieces. Mind you, this is not due to abuse - it's more a testament to the fact that this toy was never meant to actually be played with.
Is it unreasonable to expect, for north of fifty bucks, to get a toy that has a little bit of craftmanship?
My advice is to get Tonka - much higher quality at less than half the price!
