I bought this for my son for Xmas and it never finished one load of rocks. We did not overload it but the motor burned out any way I then went and bought a lortone and wow what a difference it is quieter and built to last My son is so excited. The old cheep plastic one left him frustrated and crying and me feeling like I failed on the Christmas present. I really can not say this to strongly Don't buy anything but a lortone the price may be more but it is worth it, also when you buy grit you should pay about 2$ a pound. Also when you read in your lortone book as to how much Grit to use I find that 1/2 to 2/3 the amount of grit they recommend is plenty. as far as a good rock tumbeler goes if you want to reasearch further phone any rock shop of get a hold of your local rock and mineral society. to find them phone any science play place most big cities have one. If you really want to have fun with your kid join the rock and mineral society these people may be a bunch of nerds but they love to share and teach and the field collecting trips are awesome. Now go buy a Lortone and have some Fun
