Toys and Games Reviews of Bontempi - ClarinetCustomer Review: Cool toy, but not what I expected. Summary: 3 Stars
I know this is a toy, but I was hoping for something that was a little more durable. It's all plastic and I thought it looked like it would be made of tin or some sort of metal. It plays nicely and I know my 3 year old would love it!! We just have to really take care of it. As for educational I think it's just okay. I thought it would have the same fingering as a clarinet, but it doesn't and the notes will only play if you are pushing down a key. It won't work if you just blow in it. I also thought it would come with a song book, but the songs are actually on the back of the box which was completely smashed upon arrival to my house so I will be making a book of my own. I am so excited to have this though and I can't wait to pull out my clarinet and have a jam session with my daughter. I am certain that they can learn songs on it with the color learning system, but it will have to be up to the parent to figure out some other songs to teach or let the child improvise! I think it is definitely worth the price if you have a little person who loves to make music.
Customer Review: Cheap toy Summary: 2 Stars
Have you ever gone to a dollar store and seen the cheap toy musical instruments they sell? They usually sell for maybe $3.99. Well, that's what you are looking at now, except they are charging $15.89. I orderered this as well as the saxaphone and trumpet for my 4-year-old son. When the package arrived last night and I opened it I was completely disgusted in how I had wasted my money. This toy is so cheaply made, even the box it was enclosed in is cheap. I am debating returning it or giving it to my son. I know because of how cheap the toy is made it'll be broke within a week.
Customer Review: Great beginner instrument Summary: 4 Stars
My six year old received this for Christmas. She figured out the color-coded music within a few hours and had the songs that were printed on the back of the box memorized within a couple of days. She loves this toy! She shows off her musical "talent" whenever we have visitors. I agree with other reviews that the materials aren't exactly durable but for the price it makes a good sound. Just had to teach her to be careful with it. Wish Bontempi had a little color-coded songbook so she could learn more songs!
Customer Review: A good inexpensive choice for a preschooler Summary: 4 Stars
Our three year old loves this good looking (for plastic)silver toy clarinet that allows him to play along with his favorite classical CD's (he's a big Baby Einstein fan). For the price it's definitely worth the fun it's facilitated. We've got the whole set (clarinet, trumpet, and sax). The sax has made it through four months of regular use (not being used as a substitute toy drum though) with no defects- the other two instruments have each had a single button/key break.
Customer Review: Great Instrument Summary: 4 Stars
My son calls this a flute, and rather than argue, we let it go. But his little hands have a hard time holding it. (He's 4). Even I have trouble. I'm right-handed and the right-hand keys are on the bottom. I don't know if that's how real clarinets are, but it's awkward. Also, your whole mouth has to be covering the entire mouthpiece in order to make it play, so that's also a little frustrating. But the sound is great and it's fun to play once you get the hang of it.
