Toys and Games Reviews of Crayola Color Wonder Magic Light Brush

Customer Review: Don't waste the money
Summary: 2 Stars

This uses the Color Wonder Finger paint And Coloring Book. (Which to me isn't really 'mess free'. ) Add batteries to the paintbrush and the brush lights up the color of the finger paint as it is dipped in the color. The directions say 'clean the brush after dipping it into each color'!! For a 4 yr old they want to mix all the colors, and they still want to put their fingers in it, to finger paint.
The 'light brush' is neat when it lights up, but to put batteries in, having to wipe the brush clean after dipping into each paint, then having to wash the brush after each use, you might was well just get the plan old finger paints. My child wanted to still put her fingers into the 'mess free paint' too, so I then had to wash her all up. I didn't think this was 'mess free' as advertised, a bit time consuming cleaning, and why spend the extra money for a 'light brite' brush you have to clean.

Customer Review: Fun but dries out fast
Summary: 5 Stars

My 3 year old got this for Christmas, and she loved it. However, she left them open, and within a short time the paint started to gel up. I don't know if it can be returned to its original state with a little water, as I didn't try. I did notice though that it just starts as a film that you can peel off and the rest of the paint is still fine underneath. Overall a great alternative to traditional fingerpaints as my daughter tends to paint everywhere but the paper! I also am not sure if there is a battery-saving feature or what, but after some time the paintbrush no longer lit up, before it was always glowing when on, so I knew easily if it was on or off. I thought the batteries had died in record time but my son decided to try it out and it lit up once it neared the paint. Hopefully this is just something it does if left on for a long period of time.

Customer Review: Really is magical for a little one
Summary: 4 Stars

My 3 year old son loves to paint, but makes a huge mess. This works out great for him! He can work on the kitchen table rather than on the floor on newspapers, which we both prefer. Some of the drawbacks that other reviews mentionened are true-- the colors are a little more pastel than expected, and it takes a few seconds for them to develop after a brushstroke (although you can see the gel to know where the paint was placed). Also the brush has to be wiped with a papertowel between colors to avoid mixing, so it does require some supervision for a little one. None of these issues is a big deal for us, because he's not doing precision work at this stage and we work on arts projects together anyway. An older child trying to make a drawing might find this frustrating, but for a little kid making smears and dots it's fun and magical.

Customer Review: Packaging is deceiving. Don't waste your money on this!
Summary: 2 Stars

My daughter received this toy as a birthday present. She expected the brush to always be lit up. That's what it shows on the packaging. I thought it was defective so I went to the store to exchange it for a new one. When I brought that one home it did the same thing. The light would flash when you turned it on but doesn't stay on. I didn't learn this until reading the Amazon reviews. A couple times it would light up a different color than the paint pot she was in. Also the cord that attaches the wand to the unit gets in the way when she is painting.

If you are thinking of buying this please save your money. It's really not worth the $12.99 that we paid at Toys R Us. Crayola couldn't you come up with something better??? I'll stick with the basic paint and paint brush for my kids.

Customer Review: Misleading Advertising
Summary: 1 Stars

Crayola makes some great products, and after seeing the commercials for Crayola Color Wonder we thought this would be another. The commercial clearly shows the brush lighting up while painting on the paper (and the picture on the box also shows the brush giving off a glowing affect while being used). However, it only lights up when you hold the brush over the paint containers and while dipping in the paint. Then it only stays lit for a few seconds after removing it from that area.

Upon reading the entire box, I realized it's only designed to light up when held over the paint container to identify what color you're about to dip the brush in. It does NOT stay lit the whole time you are painting, as the commercial makes it appear.
