Toys and Games Reviews of Banzai Black-Out Blast SlideCustomer Review: SAFETY ISSUE TO WATCH FOR WITH THIS ONE Summary: 4 Stars
I researched all of the waterslides in my price range and ended up buying this one. The grand children used it today for the first time. FIRST - please note that the photo on the box is VERY deceiving! The children playing on this slide are "photo shopped" onto the slide to make it look much larger and longer than it is!! BUT THE WORST AND THE ONE WITH A SAFETY ISSUE IS THIS - The "landing area" - where they come off the PADDED green slide - APPEARS to be off the ground and have the same green padding as the slide. It looks like the padded slide goes all the way to the end of the landing area, you can even SEE the green color in the photo.BUT, IT DOES NOT. When my 8 and 6yr olds came down the slide - their little bottoms slammed onto the HARD GROUND. They just love the slide but every turn down the slide hurt them. What makes it worse it that the slide is not straight - it undulates - so they tend to bounce off the slide as they hit the bottom of the landing area. Even with water in that area - it does not help the impact your child will get. Tomorrow am - we are going to put a 2in thickness of memory foam UNDER the landing area. I'm hoping this will soften their landing. The slide is very sturdy and I like the fact that the top of the slide is much safer - it's enclosed so it's much more difficult for a younger child to fall off. The height of the slide is great, and length of the slide is not bad BUT NOT NEARLY AS LONG AS PICTURED AND- be very careful of the "crash landing" your child will get. I read about the issue in a few of the reviews but then others said it was not a problem. My g.children are not that big - I hate to think what this crash would do to an older child - SO BE WARNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM - it's worse than you think. Buying a piece of foam (mattress topper)should take care of the problem - I guess we will find that out tomorrow.
I am very upset about the deliberately misleading photos on this box. The overall photo of the slide is "lengthened" by photo software- making it appear much longer and making the tunnel appear much longer than it is. OTHER THAN THESE TWO FEATURES - DELIBERATELY MADE TO LOOK OTHER THAN THEY REALLY ARE - I have to say, this is a fun slide. I hate it when mfg.s do this to consumers. Even though the actual meas. are on the box - you DO tend to look at the photo.
Our favorite was the Bonzai Sidewinder. But we used it very little over two summers and now - with NO holes - it won't hold air pressure. UV damage I guess. This is the reason we went with the current slide - it's made from a newer UV material. I hope this helps someone make a more informed decision re: this waterslide. For sheer fun and variety - you can't beat the Sidewinder. I just wasn't going to pay that much again and have it last only a few months!1
