From here I will relate some information that has already been mentioned elsewhere... the ship is in DEMO mode in the box, all this means is that the action button will only play one sound - no lights - until you remove it from its packaging. So don't fry yourself trying to push the buttons until you find one that lights up... it's okay. To alter this, remove the battery plate, this loosens two plastic plates, one is the battery cover, and the other is the place holder for the mounting piece if you wish to use it. There is also a simple switch to toggle the ship from DEMO to NORMAL, this activates the other sounds and the lights. The nacelles do have small plastic strips covering metal leads which further protect the original batteries, just pull them off and pop the nacelles back on. At this point, I did notice that one nacelle was a tad looser than the other, but it did not rattle or fall off.

To use the plastic mount provided, it is best to mount the plastic peice to the pedestal before attaching it to the ship... as mentioned elsewhere, this makes it balance better.

The ship is ready to go, less the work mentioned above, right out of the box. No stickers, no assembly, that's it. The ship, while admittedly small, looks much better than it's Playmates cousins. The older Playmates ships LOOK like toys, whereas this toy looks like a model. Both are made of your basic molded plastic, but the Art Asylum product is a good deal more detailed.

As the Enterprise-E was 'tweaked' for the release of Star Trek NEMESIS, one hopes to see more of these fine toy/models from Art Asylum...the NX-01 is a great first effort and at such a resonable price, it is a great deal!
