Customer Review: Pretty good game, and very sly

My fiancée and I got this as a Christmas gift and cracked it open that night with all of our friends. Here's how I judge it, based on my experiences with previous games:
RULES: Roll the dice, move the allotted spaces, and draw a card. You must ask the question on the card that corresponds to the category you land on. There are four categories, Hypotheticals, No-Brainers, Anything Goes, and Personals. A fifth space on the game board, when you land on it, allows you ask any of the four questions. Then everyone else writes down their answer and passes it to the player who had the turn before, who reads off all the answers aloud. Whoever asked the question must determine which answer belongs to which player. If they get any right, they're able to move their game piece forward based on how many they matched correctly. You win by landing in the win space and matching three answers.
BREAKING THE RULES: As with the best games out there, Loaded Questions quickly turns into an entirely different game as you relax the rules. Since it is based on how well you know the people playing, it becomes a game of sly misdirection; no one says you have to be truthful and answering like someone else in the group is not only a good way to win, it's fun and in the spirit of the game (get to know your friends by pretending to be them!). Once everyone starts doing this, it becomes really challenging.
To encourage funny answers, my group disregarded the connection between game board and categories. It was easier and more fun to just ask whichever question on the card we wanted. That sped the game up a little, and allowed us to pass on some boring questions like "What's your favorite color?" and get into the really juicy bits.
The game is meant for four to six players and comes with six game pieces. We had around nine people playing, so we decided to play a couples version. Team play is a little awkward since all of the questions are meant for individuals, but that's easily remedied by designating one person from the team to answer after the question is asked. You could probably add more pieces for extra players and not drag the game down at all, now that I think about it (actually, I think I'll try that for next time).
As for the end space ruling, we also disregarded the need to match three answers at the end to win. We decided whoever got there first won. This is probably a good idea if the game is winding down and everyone is tired, like we were. It may be too much to ask to get 3 correct matches at the end, when everyone is trying to throw you off so they can win.
OVERALL: Loaded Questions is a very solid game. It's a little bulkier and slower than the now-classic Apples to Apples since it requires writing, but achieves a similar effect. Played straight it can be fun, but the best side of it comes out when you relax the rules to your own liking. Recommended.
