Toys and Games Reviews of Alex Paint in the Tub

Customer Review: Weak colors make it frustrating for toddlers
Summary: 3 Stars

My daughter likes to play with this, but she often gets frustrated that the colors don't show up well. As other reviewers have said, the colors are runny and very soapy, so they don't stick well to the wall unless it is totally dry, and they don't show up as bright colors. The palatte idea is nice because the child has a place to store the colors while she's painting, but the space to put the colors is so small, that there's a need to refill often. My daughter usually ends up painting on herself more than on the wall, which I guess is ok, but she's not really drawing, just smearing colors all over herself. This means there's a lot of rinsing off time needed. If the colors were brighter and stuck on better, she could actually draw a picture and get into the pretend play more. This was a gift that came with extra paints, and I'm just happy to use it up so I can try something else. The bath crayons, for example, are much more satisfying for a child to use.

Customer Review: Great for stimulating creativity
Summary: 5 Stars

I am actually a little confused with why the ratings on this product are so terrible. Apparently everyone expected real paint; someone needs to send these people a memo, it is for the bath! They had to make something that was safe for children, would be easy to use, and would wash off easily. The colors of the paint show up fine unless you have a dark tile. I wouldn't suggest using the fish to paint, use finger or even a paint brush instead. The fish more or less just soaks up the paint. I got the impression that the fish was not meant to be used with the paint. My son just pretends the fish is real and makes it 'swim' in the water. I'm also very unsure of how someone tore the fish; it is extremely durable and has been chewed on by both of our kids. All in all, this is a good product for THE BATHTUB!!! Do not order this if you are expecting Crayola finger paints or something, it is not the same!

Customer Review: A Kid's favorite bath toy
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter loves this set... we're on our 3rd. I can't imagine a child not loving this!

Obviously it doesnt last forever, but it lasts a lot longer than you would think it would by seeing the small bottles.
The colors are mostly really bright, and if you jostle the soap in the water to make bubbles you can see the color in the bubbles!

if you need to "bribe" a kid into the bath this toy is garenteed to do the trick!!

1 small complaint:
-the "pallate" is worthless.. it doesnt float and wont fit on the side of the tub.
(if you save the plastic part of the package it makes a MUCH better paint-holder.. although it takes on water as well if the child isnt careful)

It would be really great if they made a deluxe set with a good quality floating palate and maybe some stamps.

Customer Review: Weak.
Summary: 1 Stars

This product is weakly colored bubble bath, not fingerpaint at all. My two year olds were very disappointed that when they tried to draw on the walls, they couldn't see what they were drawing. They were confused and needed to dump out an entire bottle in their hand to spread on the wall in order to see anything. Then because it was all used up, they cried because there wasn't any more. The palette is worthless because you can't hold enough "paint" in any of the fingers to be able to see anything when painted. The consistency is like bubble bath or shampoo, so in other words, runny and not a good material to use for painting. The kids couldn't even make hand prints! On the plus side, it did not stain my walls or grout. Not that I would expect it to... because there isn't enough pigment!

Customer Review: Not For the Tub
Summary: 2 Stars

This paint set is meant to be used in the bath tub by a preschool aged child. It is completely useless unless the palette, the child's hands, and the wall are COMPLETELY dry. If there is any wetness the paints are too runny to work. Who would expect a preschool child to go through such lengths to paint with a product that is SUPPOSED to be used in the BATHTUB??? It is like painting with water or disappearing ink.

If you use a dry paintbrush on a dry surface with paint from a pallette being held by dry hands you get almost acceptable colors.

Since I cannot find the company's website, I plan to write them a letter of complaint to the address on the box. What a waste of money.
