Customer Review: They have changed this toy for the worse!
Summary: 4 Stars

This toy is bad quality. I am so very disappointed!
We had this set in the past and the company has changed it. On our old set, the white solid rocket boosters were able to come off, separate from the orange external fuel tank. This one does not. It is hard to play shuttle lift off, when the solid rocket boosters won't come off, because in real life the boosters come off first and fall into the ocean, to be reused, later the orange external fuel tank comes off and burns up in the atmosphere. This toy has them all permanently connected. :(
The old set had a shuttle that attached firmly to the external fuel tank, but this new version won't attach well. When placed on the gray "crawler transporter", the doors to the payload bay on the shuttle come open. It looks sort of haphazard and cheap sitting there, unlike the old version of this set.
The crawler isn't as nice or detailed and the robotic arm, in the payload bay, is now significantly thinner and more delicate. The shuttle, (die cast with plastic), is pretty much the same, except for the payload and robotic arm. It was always pretty delicate on the plastic parts. Our payload bay door and the wheels broke, and the tail fin broke off. It really needs to be played with carefully and put up, despite the fact that it seems to be marketed to youngish kids. The astronauts are the same too-out of scale and wearing suits for an eva. I'd love to see smaller ones, wearing the orange "pumpkin suit" of the shuttle astronauts.
If I'd only known Space Voyagers, (now owned by Action Products International Inc/apii), was going to make these awful changes, I would have bought several before the change. I've tried to contact the company, to give them feedback and none of the phone numbers, or email addresses on the website work.
I do want to say that I've been pleased by other Space Voyagers toys, yet I am left to wonder if they'll all go downhill too. It certainly doesn't inspire confidence.
I would not recommend this product, although there doesn't seem to be any alternative. Several brands make a similar product and they all suffer the same deficiencies. I suppose the same company in China must make them all.

Customer Review: Great to Play and Display
Summary: 4 Stars

I am going to start off by saying that this is not your avarage to. This is a collectors display toy. One that could displayed in an office. The shuttle is dicast, the boosters are removable, the bay doors open, it has the robotic arm that has a removable satellite, has retractable landing gear. The mobile command center truck is made of die cast as well. It has the pull back and go gears to make it move. The Orbitor sits on the famous pad 39/crawler. This is one sweet piece that you don't want to be without. This is also not something you can get at yourWal-Mart, Kmart . . . If you know anyone that follows our space program then this is something they will want to have. I have mine displayed in my office with my Saturn V.

Customer Review: This is the biggest piece of garbage!
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this item from the gift shop at the childrens science museum in Cambridge, Ma. Actually, I bought one and opened it for my 3 year old in the museum cafe, and immediately had to exchange it for a new one because it was missing the landing gear on the back right side. The new one lasted a total of 8 minutes before the front wheels broke off. Then three minutes later, the rear left wheel assembly fell apart and was lost. My son loved the shuttle anyway, so we took it back to the hotel, where the very next morning, the plastic peg that holds the orbiter onto the fuel tank snapped off. So here I am with a space shuttle that cost me $32+change, that wont stay on the tank, and is missing two wheels. I know that NASA did not engineer this thing, but I expected more than this from a museum store.

Oh, and all three parts in addition to every piece of the robotic arm/sattelite are choking hazards. Way to go people. It doesn't even make sence to have a metal shuttle while everything else is made from plastic. This is worse quality than those little wax animals that are made in front of your eyes in those 800 degree bubbles at the zoo.

Customer Review: Fun and easy to play with
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a high quality toy and one of my 4 year old son's favorites! He loves to simulate take off by "jettisoning" the solid rock boosters and the external tank. At the same time, it is very easy for him to reassemble on his own - major plus for me! He also loves having the "launch pad" and vehicle for added imaginative play situations. He has spent hours playing with this set and it has even won out over several Star Wars toys.

Customer Review: Not built for the regular play of 5-9 year old kids
Summary: 2 Stars

The Shuttle was a good size, and my son has fun making the booster rockets fall off as it takes off, but I live in fear of the little plastic tabs that hold them on the shuttle breaking off. The set came with no instructions, so I have yet to figure out how the Satellite arm assembles and works. One of the wheels came off the shuttle in the first week (my son specifically requested a Shuttle with wheels, so he could land it). While we were able to get it on, it continues to fall off. They just did not make this "playable" for the kids who would be most interested ... 5-9 year olds.
