I rated this "toy" as 5 stars for fun and 5 stars for educational because it is FUN to be able to see your books and it encourages reading, so it is educational. With the regular book shelf the books were always falling over, or they would tear them all off the shelves looking for a certain one. My little ones (ages 3-6)immediately figured out they could put three books in layers by putting the tallest in back. It holds 12-18 picture books on each shelf, depending on the book, or 3 thicker books like the Disney and Fairy tale treasuries. It went together quickly and easily (took my 14 year old son 15 minutes using an electric screwdriver. it is very sturdy and looks nice. Because it is natural wood, they won't outgrow it when they get past the primary color years. My pre-teen daughters each asked for one for their room because it looks so nice and they wanted to put their art projects and things in it. A great product at a reasonable price.
